iPhone App enters top positions in App Store

Posted on August 4, 2009

aperto move has recently contracted us to develop an iPhone application conceptualized and designed by a team of specialists at the Berlin company.

The problem the application solves is finding the nearest pharmacy which is on duty in case of an emergency. In Germany drugstores are not open 24/7. Instead 2.000 out of a total number of 21.500 stores provide emergency services. “Apotheken” [iTunes link] has been integrated into the backend services of Germany’s pharmacies head association, which maintains the daily list of emergency drugstores.

Shortly after release to the German iTunes App Store “Apotheken” ranked #3 in the “Utilities” category. Today it climbed to the pole position in “Highlights”, effectively bringing it to the front page of the mobile and desktop App Stores.

Within a single day the program jumped into the Top 25 of the “Most Purchased” apps, ranking #20 at this moment.

Given the fact that some have forecasted the end of valuable utilities for the iPhone in favor of an App Store where only games sell well, acceleract GmbH is extremely proud to prove, that solutions which deliver real value are still doing fine.

“Apotheken” leverages the latest iPhone OS 3.0 features and integrates nicely with the on device Contacts and Maps apps.

With this success acceleract continues to be one of the leading German resources in the iPhone and iPod touch development space with a focus on commercially successful, value-added applications.

I’m sorry to disagree with the author, though the article correctly states that the Pharmacy market varies from other Countries, paid Apps do extremely well on the App Store, thus I deem the App Store a successful business venture. And German Apps don’t have the leadership at all I might add. You can look up the statistics on the web, real easy thing to do.

I believe you misunderstood the article. The article is not at all specifically about medical apps or how the German App Store performs in comparison to other countries. To make this clear: Various sources (and all of the recent charts) indicate that the most dominant business in the App Store around the globe is games, games, games. We are happy that one of our utility apps, which actually delivers a real value, made it to the Top 10 these days. That’s all we wanted to push out! Hope this clarifies.
